Elderly couple brutally attacked at home

St Lucia police appealed for public assistance Monday, as they began investigations into a deadly home invasion in Saltibus.

The attack left Patrick Giraudy, 79, dead and his wife nursing serious injuries, after she was savagely beaten.

Police say they’re investigating whether the 69 year old woman – who’s currently at hospital - was also raped.

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident; however lawmen say no motive has yet been established for the attack.

Reports indicate that the elderly couple was subjected to extreme violence by the masked man who was armed with a cutlass.

The assailant is said to have battered Mr. Giraudy, before tossing him out of the house through a window.

He’s also reported to have threatened to kill Mrs. Giraudy if she screamed.

Patrick Giraudy and his wife had no children, and were the only occupants of their home.

Saint Lucia police held a news conference Wednesday where they called on witnesses to come forward with information.

The lawmen have not releasing the suspect’s identity pending formal charges against him.

However, ACP Andre Cox confirmed that he’s currently under armed guard at hospital, after being shot by officers.

“During the arrest operation, the suspect challenged police with a firearm and was shot. The injuries are not life threatening and he was conveyed to hospital, where he’s under guard recovering,” he said.

Police have thanked Saltibus residents, who they say played a key role, in the quick capture of the murder suspect.

“The community provided us with several leads which we pursued. They assisted us in searching various areas and that resulted in us developing a wider search area and to target specific areas, where we believe the suspect was cited,” Cox added

The murder suspect is expected to be brought before a court soon to be formally charged.
