Human Rights lawyer Arrested for Domestic Abuse

He may be fighting for the civil liberties of others, but when it comes to his wife - the controversial Human Rights lawyer, Martinus Francois seems to have no remorse.

Mr. Francois has been arrested by police again for alleged wife beating.

He's being detained at the Gros Islet Police Station and is expected to appear before the courts today to be formally charged.

Police say Francois was arrested around 8 o’clock Wednesday night after his wife filed a report of assault.

The victim has reportedly been treated for minor injuries.

It’s not the first time that Martinus Francois has been arrested for abusing his wife and so far there are no signs indicating that it's going to be the last....

The lawyer has blamed alcohol for the situation, but claims he will "take steps" to address the problem.

If the Human Rights lawyers are the ones beating their wives, who's fighting to protect the rights of the hundreds of Saint Lucian women who are abused on a daily basis?

UPDATE:

Martinus Francois was charged with assault and released on $750 bail. He was also ordered to remain 100 yds away from his victim. However when he appeared in court, his wife (alleged victim) was by his side.

Outside the courtroom, Francois told reporters that he and his wife were happily in love and would be working on their relationship.
