Worshippers wounded in police shooting

They are the definition of innocent victims; three people wounded by police gunfire while queuing outside their church for a meal.

The incident occurred at the Streams of Power Tabernacle at Waterworks Road in Castries on Sunday and the victims (three women) include a 12 year old girl.

Residents say an officer was chasing a man with a marijuana joint, when he opened fire in a crowded residential area. The bullets somehow made its way to the nearby church.

The police have apologized for the shooting, but claim the officer followed procedure.Like many similar cases from the past, it seems unlikely that anyone will be held accountable for the actions outside that church.

At a news conference on Monday, the police said the shooting was completely justified. They claim that the officer opened fire after one of three suspects, pointed a gun at him.

They further stated that the single bullet fired by the officer, hit a wall and fragmented. According to lawmen, the fragments are what wounded the worshippers.

The police made no arrests in Sunday's incident, and they are now calling on the public to help with their investigations. But for the residents, who are furious about the incident, coming forward with any information will not make much of a difference.

They have accused the police of lying about the whole situation and they deny that the officers were chasing a man with a gun.

The shooting took place in a small area -to small to be called community - crowded with houses. Residents say the shots could have hit their own families with more serious consequences.

This is the second police shooting in less than one month.

The first incident is well documented on this blog.I think we're in deep trouble in this country... where police just go around shooting people and no one pays for it....

God Help US!
